M.L.S. in Oil, Gas and Energy


The M.L.S. in Oil, Gas and Energy program is an online, 32 credit hour graduate degree that is completed in 15 months. The M.L.S. in Oil, Gas and Energy offers a competitive advantage to anyone in the energy industry that negotiates oil and gas contracts, deals with mineral rights, real estate transactions, or works closely with energy attorneys.The M.L.S. in Oil, Gas, and Energy Law is approved by the University of Oklahoma Regents.


This program has been created to provide practical legal knowledge for non-lawyers in the energy industry. Each class has been vetted by energy leaders to ensure its applicability to professionals in the industry.

Faculty with Strong Energy Law Experience

Students in the program are taught by OU Law faculty and adjunct faculty carefully selected for their expertise in Energy, Natural Resources and Oil and Gas law.

Online classes allow working professionals to take this program from anywhere in the world. Students can complete the program in 15 months.

Students are organized into small start groups and take all their classes together. Since each student is actively working in the industry, students can share real-time experiences with one another which leads to a rich learning environment. Plus, OU Law staff work closely with all students to ensure success in the program.

The University of Oklahoma has been providing energy education for over 100 years. OU Law has strong expertise in energy and collaborates with energy faculty from the Price College of Business and the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy. Each college has a strong graduate network within energy companies that our alumni can access.

Program Financing

The M.L.S. in Oil, Gas and Energy program is designed to educate the future leaders within the energy community. The team at OU Law make every effort to help qualified candidates succeed in the program. Financial aid is available.

The price for the program depends on the whether or not you are a resident of Oklahoma. In-state tuition is $504 per credit hour, out of state tuition is $883.50 per credit hour. The M.L.S. in Oil, Gas and Energy is an investment in each student’s future, and OU makes every effort to see each qualified candidate is able to attend. Current students use many types of financing to cover their expenses, including scholarships and financial aid. Applying to the Program

The M.L.S. in Oil, Gas and Energy is a selective program aimed to educate future leaders of the energy community. The program has three starts per year (May August and January), and we evaluate applications on a rolling admissions basis.

Students that wish to apply to the program are asked to:

  • Complete the Online Application
  • Submit an official transcript from your undergraduate institution and any graduate institution you have attended
  • Write and submit a personal statement on your career goals and reasons for applying to the program
  • Submit a professional resume

All of this information will be considered as part of your application. Students do not need to submit any test scores, although foreign applicants may be required to submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to demonstrate proficiency in English sufficient to successfully complete the program.
